I’ve spent pretty much the entire day between reading the best of Craigslist and catching up on cleaning from the weekend. It’s been made slightly less boring by a link that Vegas Jenn sent me. At Chore Wars you can create a character, join/create a horde and get experience points and gold for doing chores. If for nothing else, it prompts me to get my butt in gear and try to get some much needed cleaning done.

My bento for today isn’t very pretty, but it’s functional and tasty:

chicken soup

Homemade chicken and rice soup with carrots and celery, whole wheat saltines and chocolate pudding for dessert.  My tummy has been off for the past few days, more than likely because of the nacho cheese we used on our homemade shredded beef nachos we made on Friday night.  They bothered Paul too and I think it might be due to the spiciness of the cheese.  I’m a total wimp when it comes to hot stuff and Paul doesn’t really care for it either so we almost never eat spicy stuff.  Oh well…that’s what we get for caving to our cravings.

That’s about it.  Nothing exciting happened over the weekend, we stayed home and I slept a good portion of it away.  I started a top for my mom for her birthday.  It’s called Valpuri, from Berroco.  No, I still haven’t learned my lesson about hating cables.  They’re beautiful and I think my mom will like the top (at least I hope she does) so it’ll be worth it.  If I can finish it without throwing it across the room.  We’ll see.

Yesterday was a complete blur.  I spent the entire day out of the house.  Normally this would be a good thing, but not so yesterday.

I had stayed up late on Monday night, knitting, web surfing and moping about various things.  Because of that I slept in on Tuesday morning until about 10:55.  I got up, went to the potty and as I was making my way into the living room my phone rang.  It was my mom and she sounded terrible.  She asked me to look up the symptoms of salmonella and that’s pretty much where it went downhill.

I wound up getting a ride to my parents house from my father in law because my mom told me that she hadn’t been able to keep even sips of water down since she got sick around midnight the night before.  She was just going to let me go and I guess…I don’t know…suffer?  My dad was down sick with it too and neither of them could get around on their own, much less drive.

There was a lack of communication on my parents part because my mom swore the chicken she baked for their Easter dinner was thoroughly cooked, but my dad told me he’d spit out a piece that was pink.  Ugh.  My mom was able to procure appointments for both of them with their doctor, so thankfully an ER visit wasn’t necessary.  I always joke that my mom would have to be sick or dying to allow me to drive her Highlander…well…

I took them to their appointments, holding on to my mom most of the way.  She laid down in the back seat and I KNEW how sick she had to be because my mom’s a bit of a control freak.  I’ve seen my mom pretty sick before and though I was worried, I mainly just kept a close eye on her.  What really screwed with me was seeing my dad so sick.  He was shaking and kept putting his head in his hands.  Seeing the man you grew up with like that when he’s always been the strongest person in the world to you is fucking frightening.  He’s had several health problems the past year or so and it’s been scary seeing him lose some of that superhero power I’ve come to expect from him.

I was able to get their scripts dropped off, them taken home and then back to Walmart to pick the medication up.  My mom got a cramp near her ribcage and tried to get on the floor to work it out herself!  Grr!  I jacked my back up picking her up off the floor, but seriously, I didn’t even really notice until later.  Paul came over to get me after he’d gotten off work and I’d finally gotten them both settled.  I need to call this morning to see how they fared through the night.  I didn’t have a cup of coffee or a bite to eat until I got home at about 5:00 last night so I scarfed down some dinner and was in bed by 8:00.

So, that was my day.  Certainly “exciting”, but not something that I want to repeat any time soon!  I just hope my parents recuperate soon…I’ve had nasty cases of food poisoning before and I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy much less people I love.  Poor things 😦

I’ve been so sick since last night.  I think I got a tummy bug or something because I woke up this morning feeling like I had a hangover and I fought the urge to throw up from about 5pm last night until about 5am this morning.  I finally felt a little better after I ran to the bathroom and spewed.  I was dangerously close to not making it and I have more of an issue with my own vom than ANYone else’s.  I still feel nasty, but nothing like before.

I went back to bed and slept most of the morning.  When I got up I checked my email and found out that my sister and brother in law’s dog Nipper had to be put down over the weekend.  They’ve had that dog forever and I was so sad when I read that they’d lost her.

I’m thinking today pretty much sucks.  I hope that tomorrow is better.

Here’s the pictures of the ds stuff I’ve been making.

I horde all of my candy tins for decoupage purposes. This started life as a Lifesavers sour candy tin and now it’s a Cooking Mama tin for random ds bits. I’ve been entertaining the idea of making a bunch of charms to hang off my ds and this would be a good size tin to store them in.

I’d never done plastic canvas before, so it’s a little messy, but I like how it turned out overall. I wanted something to carry my games in that would hold more than a few at a time and I got this idea from a post on craftster where a person made a ds case out of plastic canvas to look like a classic nintendo controller. I only have six games right now, but it will hold about 35 games total. Until then, it’s housing my games, extra stylus’ and my kick ass pink headphones. (Weird, I know…I used to hate pink and now it seems to be taking over my life!)

I’ve been messing around with a lot of paper stuff lately as well. I usually just make Artist Trading Cards (atcs), but I’ve been entertaining that idea of making inchies again. They’re inch square works of art, same premise as atcs, just a different size. They’re challenging, tiny and fun! I’ve got a few already, but I’m thinking of making more. Dunno yet…

And, an obligatory Gutter picture before I go.

He’s been such a lovey lately.

Anyway…I seem to have picked up a tummy bug of some sort and I’ve been feeling like absolute caca. I’m feeling a little better this morning, but I’m still going to take it easy because that’s pretty much how it started out yesterday. Ugh.

It took just two weeks of dedicated crocheting to finish this afghan! Now Hammie can stop hounding me for an updated picture 😀

Picture 214

I battled with a migraine on Friday and Saturday and that slowed me down tremendously.  I’m feeling a bit better today though and I was able to finish the afghan in the wee hours of this morning.

Try as I might, I couldn’t get a picture of the entire thing.  This one was taken on my bed with me standing on a folding chair above it, with my camera all the way to the friggin’ ceiling.  You get the idea though I’m sure.

The pattern was pleasingly accurate on yarn specs.  I didn’t use quite as much as the pattern called for, but it was really close.  Three of the six yarns called for I got from my stash, so that made me doubly happy because I really do want to use up some of this yarn!

Now that I’m finally allowing myself to work on something else, I can’t decide what to work on!  I’ve got three or four projects that are in progress and I don’t know if I want to work on those or start something new.  Sigh…decisions, decisions!

I usually don’t say this, but after the rotten weekend we’ve had, I am SO glad that it’s Monday!

Let’s see…I got sick with a head cold Friday morning around 1 am.  The piping under the kitchen sink sprung a serious leak and I spent the entire day with the water off trying to fix it.  Dear hubbin’ had it fixed within a half and hour of getting the supplies needed.  On Saturday hubbin’ had his company picnic and since I was sick I stayed home.  I got a call around 11 am from my mother in law that our radiator had blew up and he was stuck in the mountains at the picnic site!  We spent a few hours up there getting it replaced and my participation consisted of staying out of the way and trying not to fall over.  Ugh.

Needless to say, there will not be any yarn purchases or other frivolties for a few weeks since we used our bill/property tax money to take care of the cost of a new radiator.  I can live with this, as long as nothing else happens this month!

Okay, vent over, I’m ready to move on!

I don’t want to say it’s the only good thing to come out of this weekend, but one thing that perked me up was seeing this grasshopper!

I don’t really care for bugs all that much, but I really liked the way this little guy looked and decided to get a shot of him.  He’s hanging out on an old door in my in-laws back yard and he took off as soon as I was finished taking the picture.

I’ve been plugging away at the Hedgerow Coat for my friend Shannon.  It’s looking okay, but to be honest I don’t care for it much.  I went with the size she was sure would fit and though I think it WILL fit, I also think it’s going to be more like a body hugging cardigan than a roomy, comfortable coat.  If she’s okay with that, I’m okay with that.  I’m also getting a little impatient.  I know that with all the cables and knit/purl pattern it’s not going to be a super-quick knit, but I’ve been working for hours every night on the back and I’m just starting the arm shaping now.  I think I’ve seriously put in about 50 hours worth of work on this since I started and it’s only been about a week.  Eek!  Good thing for late night sniffles that keep me up and TV on DVD, huh?

It does look really nifty with all the textures.  I’m using Caron Simply Soft Heather in Deep Plum.  I use acrylic fairly often and though I know that it’s not the ideal for sweaters, Caron Simply Soft is nice.  I’ve made a couple of sweaters in it and I actually really love it.

No idea what’s going on, but I’ve been feeling icky the past few days.  It seems like the past week I’ve either got the start of a cold or a tummy ache or other such things that make me feel nasty.  Enough already!  I’m tired of feeling yucky!

The only good thing I can say about feeling bad is that I spent a lot of time lounging over the weekend and finishing the fronts to the Sienna cardigan.  In retrospect I wish I would have worked them at the same time, but I took decent notes about where to do my decreases (since my gauge was a little off) and they look pretty good.  I cast on for both sleeves earlier today and I think it would be awesome to finish the whole sweater in a week!    We’ll see…

I checked my email just a few minutes ago and saw that Knitting Daily is adding a new feature!  They’re starting a Stitch of the Day stitch pattern!  The catch is that each pattern is only on the site for one day.  There won’t be an archive, so make sure you visit every day if you’re interested in aquiring new stitch patterns.  I think I’ll be snagging their button so I’ll remember to visit; a knitter can never have too many stitch patterns!

I’ll try to get some pictures up tomorrow of my knitting progress.  I love how quick the sweater’s going, but it’s making me ignore my other projects.  The sooner it’s done, the better!
